ECOMMERCE + CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
Designing the System Beyond the Creative
Creative Direction • Customer Experience • Ecommerce • Merchandising • Creative Operations
THE CHALLENGE
A brand doesn’t stop being designed when the customer clicks Shop.
As Vee’s Tees grew across Etsy, eBay, Walmart Marketplace and Shopify, thousands of SKUs had to remain discoverable while product relationships, sizing, promotions, reviews and post-purchase communication still needed to feel connected to one brand.
And every platform came with limitations I didn’t control.
CREATIVE DIRECTION
I approached the store from the customer’s side first:
What would I expect to happen here if I were shopping?
That question informed navigation by theme and product type, new-release and best-seller merchandising, related-product recommendations, sizing systems, gift cards, promotional thresholds, reviews and customer communication.
That experience extended into the less-visible parts of the store as well—FAQs, sizing information, shipping and return policies, international ordering considerations and the practical information customers needed to purchase with confidence.
When the experience I wanted wasn’t supported natively, I evaluated apps, integrations, workflows and—in some cases—code or workarounds. Not every experiment was completed before the store paused, but the desired customer experience remained the decision-making standard.
THE SYSTEM
Discovery → Product → Purchase → Experience → Review → Return
The system continued after checkout.
Thank-you materials evolved into channel-specific touchpoints. Review QR codes connected physical packages back to the digital experience. Customer reviews and photos became social proof. Review data was migrated as platforms changed so existing customer feedback wasn’t automatically left behind.
EVOLUTION
Vee’s Tees taught me to see ecommerce as more than a storefront.
It is where brand, merchandising, operations and customer behavior meet.
Some problems required design. Others required technology, workflow changes, platform decisions or a better process.
Knowing the difference became part of the creative direction.
