ICAN ANNUAL REPORT 2022

Led the creative direction and editorial systems design for ICAN’s 72-page annual report, transforming dense advocacy, programmatic, research, and financial content into a clear, scalable editorial experience for global print and digital audiences.

Designed a flexible visual communication system spanning information architecture, editorial frameworks, typography systems, data visualization, image enhancement, and long-form content design—while navigating 100+ stakeholder revision rounds across a highly complex approval process.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT

  • 72-page annual report (print + digital)

  • 100+ stakeholder revision rounds across multiple departments

  • 90% of imagery refined for consistency and integration

  • Custom charts, graphs & infographic systems

  • Global advocacy, programmatic & financial reporting

  • Multi-department stakeholder approval process

THE CHALLENGE

ICAN needed to communicate a year of global initiatives, partnerships, research, financial reporting, and organizational impact through a highly information-dense publication.

The challenge was designing a system capable of organizing:

  • Advocacy and policy communication

  • Program reporting and impact storytelling

  • Research and thought leadership

  • Complex financial information

  • Global, multi-department content priorities

As project requirements evolved, significant portions of the report were repeatedly restructured to accommodate changing stakeholder feedback while maintaining clarity, consistency, and editorial cohesion.

MY ROLE

  • Creative Direction

  • Editorial Systems

  • Information Design

  • Production Leadership

Led the end-to-end visual development of the report, including:

  • Editorial systems and scalable page frameworks

  • Typography hierarchy and grid development

  • Information architecture for dense content

  • Custom charts, graphs, and infographics

  • Image enhancement and visual cohesion

  • Long-form editorial storytelling and layout systems

  • Print and digital production preparation

  • Stakeholder revision implementation

Navigated 100+ revision rounds, adapting layouts, restructuring content, and maintaining visual consistency despite evolving priorities and shifting creative direction.

DESIGN APPROACH

Building a Scalable Editorial System

Rather than designing pages individually, I developed a modular editorial framework capable of flexing across multiple content types while maintaining consistency and readability.

This included:

Typography Systems — Creating hierarchy and rhythm across long-form editorial, research, and financial content.

Information Architecture — Translating dense material into clear, digestible layouts without sacrificing credibility or depth.

Data Visualization — Designing charts, diagrams, and infographic systems to simplify complex information.

Visual Cohesion — Refining imagery and layout systems to create a consistent, engaging editorial experience.

OUTCOME

The final publication transformed complex organizational reporting into a visually cohesive, accessible editorial system that balanced credibility, usability, and storytelling.

This project demonstrates my ability to:

  • Translate complexity into scalable communication systems

  • Lead high-volume, high-stakes creative projects

  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments

  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution

  • Maintain consistency across large-scale, information-rich publications
